Kurokawa Mei Information
Kurokawa began her singing career by singing the theme song "Namida no Umi" for the second "Keitai Keiji" series and continues to release music on a somewhat steady basis, juggling both her acting and singing careers. In celebration of her 19th birthday on May 13th, 2006, Kurokawa held her first birthday live event. In April 2006 Kurokawa began hosting her own radio program, "Kurokawa Mei no Rajitomo", with Nippon Cultural Broadcasting.
Was classmates with Nagasawa Masami and Suzuki Anne in the private Horikoshi school she attended. She remains good friends with Nagasawa and is also friends with Murakawa Eri (formerly of BOYSTYLE). Is named after the English name of the fifth month, May.
Kurokawa loves photography and owns Nikon's FM3A and D70 cameras.
Hates haunted houses and the grotesque. Because of this, Kurokawa considers herself to be poor when it comes to horror films and won't even watch them after being made.
She shares no relationship with fellow idol Kurokawa Tomoka, who also attended Horikoshi High School. Kurokawa Mei made her debut in 1993 in a commercial for "Tenobesoumen Iibo no Ito". Four years later she made her drama debut with the drama "Kagami wa Nemuranai", playing the younger version of the character Tamiko. In 2001 she had a starring role in the drama "Heart", and two years later played a double role in the drama "Tenshi Mitai". It was with "Keitai Keiji" in 2004 that Kurokawa got her major acting break, as the drama was aired for nine months. In 2006 the drama was made into a major motion picture film, with Kurokawa starring alongside other popular actresses Horikita Maki and Kaho, among others.
Though Kurokawa Mei started her career back in 1996, she still is considered one of the most beautiful women in Japan and earlier this summer she was voted #2 choice for ideal girlfriend (the winner was Aya Ueto). Poll results in Japanese here. More on ideal girlfriends (in English) from blog Foreign Dispatches.
